The Goat’s Surf Forecast

Suffering Succotash – Surf forecast update for those wanting an early indication of upcoming surf for the Easter/Anzac break…

Suffice to say…. there’s sufficient info to suggest that the early part of the break will be less than inspiring …  ssss  ffffff  !!!  Hisssy ffit …

Oh well… enough alliteration… (big word, hope I spelled it right:)

Tuesday: about 1-2 metres East South East.

Wednesday: about 1 metre East.

Thursday: about 1 metre East South East.

Good Friday: less than 1 metre East South East.

Easter Saturday: up from the South, say about 2 metres at places that get dead South swell, but with ordinary wind and weather.

Easter Sunday: in the 1-2 metre range South.

Easter Monday/Anzac Day: about 1 metre East.

Have a peaceful Easter and Anzac Day, remember the Diggers, and reflect on the things that matter to you, besides surf.

Historical fact>>> cause we like to keep you informed and edjucated (and I just happened to be reading about it :)…

On the morning of 19 April 1770 (that’ll be 241…someone check my maths… years ago next Tuesday) Lt Zachery Hicks on Cook’s ship Endeavour became the first recorded European to spot the East Coast of Australia.. at…Point Hicks… (though surprisingly it wasn’t called that then)…  Where’s that??  Check it out on a map – I’m not going to spoon feed you…  But I will say that TG has had a swim in the ocean close by there, and the water is quite cool.

Contrary to popular misconception, Cook expected to bump into the East Coast around that spot because he guessed that’s where it should be, based on Tasman’s earlier maps from the 1600s of the bottom bit and Tasmania (which surprisingly also wasn’t called that then)…  The fact that Cook pretty much expected it to be there doesn’t reduce the signficance of the find and his navigational skills.

The weather in 1770 was similar to this week – wet weather, gales, followed by moderate winds…

Cookie and the boys then proceeded to cruise up the uncharted coast, checking out all the surf spots… but that’s another story…
