The short version: it’s messy and blown out pretty much everywhere on Saturday morning.
Wind was pushing along at around 20-30 knots as the things got started. The swell was out of the SSE and 2.5 metre on average at sea, but the 8 to 9 second period means we’re dealing with windswell and not much more. The Collaroy to Narrabeen stretch was pretty much ripped to bits and the Longy to Dee Why sweep was, if anything, even more torn up. I suppose if you were super-duper keen you might be able to talk yourself into messing around at Collaroy or making the long reef walk to Whiterock. And, if you were really in a questionable state, Dee Why point could, at certain times, sort of look worth the effort.
The scattered showers should become less frequent as the day goes along and the Bureau reckons the wind will be fading back – a bit – by dark.
Sadly, the SE’ly regime looks set to continue into Monday and beyond. At the same time the swell will bump along in the 2-3 metre range, but because of the baleful wind direction, I don’t think you’ll be finding much of interest until Tuesday or so. This morning’s run of the swell models points to Wed-Thr being about the best shot at a reasonable set of circumstances for surfing in Sydney. We shall see…

Weather Situation
A complex low extends from the Central Coast to north of Lord Howe Island. A centre off the central coast is forecast to move gradually north to northeast during the weekend. In combination with a high strengthening to the south, this system is directing a vigorous south to southeasterly airstream onto the New South Wales coast resulting in strong winds over the northern half of the coastal waters. The exact location and timing of the strong winds is dependent on the precise location of the low.
