If an ocean could be a lake

Hello Friends,

Socked in with fog this morning at 0600 when I first prised me peepers open. Fortunately the Internet was clear and I was instantly able to establish that we are still in the grip of microness. The MHL buoy is showing about a metre of 8 second period SE wind swell out at sea. Sadly, for early risers this was beside the point because tide is a highish high of nearly 2 metres at 0645ish. Wind was playing nice though. It was only 2-4 kts from the SW.

The fog should give way to partly cloudy skies later but by then the wind is set to come up from the east.

Naturally one’s thoughts turn to the swell forecast and here again I am not the bearer of glad tidings. A slow moving high pressure system sits athwart the southern Tasman and it’s keeping the swell away from NSW shores. This morning’s models show it continuing its baleful influence right through the weekend and, well, as far ahead as the predictions go. I wish I could report otherwise because just like you, I’m hanging out for an actual wave. Ah, waves… won’t it be good when the carparks of Sydney’s beaches echo once more with the happy whoops of stoked surfers…

Go well with your day!

Weather Situation
A high pressure system centred east of Tasmania extends a strengthening ridge across the Tasman Sea as it moves slowly east. Winds will begins to turn more northern in most coastal areas during the second half of the week as the high pushes a ridge across the region. The cold front is forecast to bring a southerly change to the south later on the weekend.
