Grey southerly morning

Hello Friends,

Southerly still going strong this morning under grey skies. It’s pushed up some short 7 second period wind swell which is mixing with the slightly longer period east stuff of yesterday. Not great conditions and as of 0600 this morning there were no takers at a very sideshore Dee Why point.

Hard to see much hope of improvement on the cards today. Indeed, we’re in for another very high tide around midday, so as the wind swings more onshore, the tide will be swamping our surf options.

I’m hanging my hat on tomorrow morning when the skies should be clearing and the southerly is set to have backed off. Throw in an early low tide, and Tuesday definitely looks a prospect for lots of spots (dominant swell direction is set to be more easterly too).

Looking way ahead… it seems TC Evan may not be quite the wave maker I was hoping. It’s intense enough to be a real worry for Fiji, but it’s looking as though the fetch area won’t be that extensive, so next weekend may not be all that spectacular. Should be something though.

Anyway, have yourself a top old Monday and go well with your plans!

Tides: H @1110, L @1750

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough is pushing a southerly change along the northern New South Wales coast, but is expected to weaken and stall near the Queensland border later today. Meanwhile, a high centred near Adelaide extends a ridge across the south and will move slowly to the southern Tasman Sea during the next few days, bringing a return to northerly winds along most of the coast by Wednesday. Behind this high, the next cold front from the Southern Ocean is forecast to reach coastal New South Wales during Thursday and Friday.
