"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Dropped a lot but not flat

Point no, beachy maybe

Good morning Sydney

Up the beach

Hello Friends,

Looked like the plan was to hit it early at Dee Why on a dropping tide and before the NE’r picked up. Swell has dropped to about half its 3 metre peak around the middle of the day yesterday. (It always looked raw and lumpy when I checked it through the day, but Shari said it cleaned up nicely for the late. Arggh, missed out.)
What we had as of daybreak was roughly 1-1.5 metres of 12 sec period SE swell. Seemed to be bypassing the point but the beachy was showing sets into the shoulder plus range on the biggest ones. Hardly anyone in the water to play, so ended up with pics of empties.
Swell looks likely to fade a little, but not severely as the tide comes back in and as the wind becomes a factor. North corners this afternoon obviously.
Vigorous south change due through overnight, so tomorrow will be back to southerly conditions. Swell should start coming back up with the wind. My take at this stage is that as far as wave heights go, we should have something in the waist plus range through the long weekend. Not sure if the Goat’ll jump in today, but hope he does because I’d like his thoughts on our prospects.
Very long range modelling is looking generally pretty good at least as far as the actual wave energy goes. Wind outlook is not so hot. Lots and lots of onshore patterns. For some reason the woo-woo land predictions are pretty excited about week after next. The models are saying potentially big east swell… interesting…
Have yourself a top Saturday and stay happy!

Weather Situation
The high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is expected to move towards the east ahead of an approaching trough with coastal winds strengthening and tending more northerly on Friday. As this trough moves over the South Coast late on Friday it is expected to deepen and form a low offshore resulting in strong to gale-force south to southwesterly winds, extending northwards during Saturday morning. Winds are expected to ease on Sunday as the next ridge extends across the coast with a high pressure system forming over the Tasman Sea once again into the new week.
