Another morning of stormy seas

Hello Friends,

Swell was nearly 3 metres from the east at 12 seconds apart this morning. Unfortunately as the forecasters warned, we have 15-20 kts of south wind tearing it to bits. Heavy rain overnight has given the inshore waters an unhealthy pallor. Yesterday Freshy, North Curly and Collaroy were all likely to have been polluted and pretty much all of the beaches south from Newport were marginal. Hard to imagine it won’t be worse today.
Just as well that it’s not exactly tempting.
Not good news on the wind front in this morning’s summary from the Bureau. The swell is going to be around the current size through Sunday, but we’re set for strong southerlies through the weekend, so hopes of a day or two ago that we might see them lighten up Sunday afternoon now appear dashed. I’m hoping this will turn out to be incorrect because the Bureau’s wind modelling is showing offshores from midday Sunday – so kinda weird that it doesn’t match up with the marine forecast (see below).
Anyway, I’m not giving up hope for Sunday waves!
Have yourself a happy and productive Thursday everyone.

Torn up ocean at 0700
Messy surf at Dee Why
Nobody’s desperate enough to try it

Weather Situation

A ridge of high pressure extends across the southern Tasman Sea, while a low pressure system is centred over the Coral Sea. This pattern is driving generally east to southeasterly winds onto the New South Wales coast, which may increase in the far north tonight as a new low pressure circulation develops just offshore. Multiple low pressure centres are then likely to remain over the Tasman Sea through to the weekend, gradually moving towards New Zealand as a weak ridge develops over New South Wales. Windy conditions and large swells are forecast to continue along the northern half of the coast through to the weekend.
