Foggy start with few waves at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

A murky start to Saturday along the beaches. A high fog (or a low sky) ensured early risers were greeted by grey skies. Not that there was too much to see really. There was a light S-SSE breeze ruffling the sea surface as of 0700, but worse, there was hardly any sign of swell. High tide is at 0850 and as for the last few days, it was really drowning the metre or so of 8-sec NE wind swell. Water temperature’s crept up a little to 21C out at the MHL buoy. Your mileage inshore may vary.
Surf options at Dee Why, well, there weren’t any really. No one in the water and no reason involving waves for them to be there.
Your only hope of a wave this morning will be at the NE spots where you might possibly find a gutless ankle to knee high dribbler for your paddleboard. Don’t have a paddleboard or similar, maybe best to look for a coffee.
On the brighter side, the Bureau tells us they expect the wind to go more north and for the NE wind swell to perk up a little in the afternoon. I’m not too hopeful for Dee Why, but NE magnets could maybe offer the odd knee to waist high thing for the late.
The models show general swell size hanging around at the 1.5-2 metre mark tomorrow and one way or another through to Tuesday. We’re talking 7-9 second wind swell though which means knee to waist at magnets with maybe the rare slightly bigger peak on mid to low tides.

A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to the north directing northerly winds along New South Wales north and central coasts and a low pressure system will develop briefly off the south coast later Saturday. This low is expected to move to the south on Sunday with just a weak trough persisting on the southern coast.
