Friday arvo report

Filling in for Don who’s flying through the air like a bird, on his way back across the Pacific Ocean…

Pacific by name, not quite so pacific by nature at some places… but still pacific at others this arvo.

Despite the big swell uptick outside, currently the Sydney MHL buoy off Long Reef is showing around 4-8 metres of 10 second swell from the S/SSW.

Only some of that is coming in at the moment, at the northern ends of some places – like the southern side of Long Reef – while southern ends like Collaroy are flat.  DY Point was flat , waves and wind along the ebach with no one out. Queenscliff/North Steyne had a couple out in shallow breaking waves.

But… there are the tell tale swell signs suggesting that may not necessarily be the same by tomorrow… Waves were breaking along the north side of Longie and there were two intrepid surfers out – one boardrider, one bodysurfer! I take my hat off to them, with the wind chill at the moment…

Far north Narrabeen surprisingly had offshore conditions with no one out along the whole stretch…. except for The Whale that was cruising back and forth playing literally about 100-150 metres off the beach in front of where I was standing… He or she stayed there for ages, no doubt sheltering from conditions outside. The whole bay north of Long Reef was relatively smooth and calm compared to the conditions offshore.
