Swell and southerly rising

Hello Friends,

Light S to SSE wind and drizzling skies at Dee Why around 0700 and tide was just starting to come back in to the next high at 1230. An hour earlier, the MHL buoy was showing 2m of 8-sec south wind swell and, as you can see from the pics, when I looked at it for the first time waves appeared to be very slightly bigger than this time yesterday. So figure knee to waist range on the bigger ones. It’s interesting that the Bureau has issued a caution for deceptively powerful surf conditions this morning.

The MHL’s model projects the potential for slightly bigger conditions across the middle part of the day. That’s generally in line with most of the other predictions, so I’d say if you could find a chest high wave face at a south magnet, you’d be doing well. Unfortunately the incoming tide will be a factor and more than that, there’s the little issue of the expected 15-20 kts of southerly.

Outlook for tomorrow is more southerly wind in the morning and a steadily weakening south swell.

Beyond that the general consensus amongst the predictions is pointing to a marginal to tiny weekend with a hope for slightly better conditions next week in terms of swell. The very long range guesstimates are showing the slightly improving trend to maintain across next week, but at this stage there aren’t any big pulses in prospect.

Have yourself a great Tuesday everyone!
