TG’s Surf Forecast

Surf forecast issued Thursday 9 June 2016: Eight day outlook for Sydney:

Well that was exciting wasn’t it???… Exciting for most of us to just sit and watch the big waves.

For the coming week there will still be waves around, and people should be able to surf them fairly comfortably most of the time.. except for a couple of days…  provided the water quality improves.  It looks pretty awful at the moment after the rain, street runoff, rivers in flood, sewage overflows, wayward kitchen sinks and swimming pools………..

Friday: 1-2 metre range, mostly upper end, at places that like dead South swell..smaller elsewhere

Saturday: Let’s call it 1-2 metres early on, then coming up from the South through the day

Sunday: about 3 metres dead South

Monday: about 2 metres dead South, easing back later

Tuesday: 1-2 metre rnage East South East

Wednesday: up somewhat at dead South places, say 1-2, 2+ metres

Thursday: about 2 metres dead South

Friday: 1-2 metre range dead South.

The footage of the Cape Fear contest brought back memories of my mates and I trekking through the bush track in the 60’s to Cape Solander (that’s it’s real name kids…named by Captain Cook after his “other” botanist  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Solander ), back when we explored far and wide looking for surf spots (I reckon that’s what Captain Cook was really doing… the surf obviously wasn’t happening around Sydney when he was here, otherwise why would he have moved on??).

We saw the wave there, but decided that it wasn’t possible to ride it… quite sensible, as we had longboards, without legropes (because short boards and leashes hadn’t been invented yet).  That still seems the case to me… Those rides just seem impossible to me.  Love the trophy 🙂   http://www.redbull.com/au/en/surfing/stories/1331798956434/18-year-old-russell-bierke-wins-red-bull-cape-fear
