Postcards: waves where there usually aren’t any

Huge rains in southern California mean there are some ephemeral river mouth banks in places that never otherwise see a surfable peak. One such has formed just east of the harbor in Santa Barbara on a stretch of beach that almost never sees a wave above a foot. It’s very likely that these conditions will only last a day or two and then it could be another decade or two before it happens again. Water was brown with run-off and who knows what sort of micro-organisms…
