"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Fat, full, windy and tiny for Thursday morning

Okay wind direction at Collaroy but no waves at 0800
Looking north from Collaroy, nothing surfwise to be seen
Whiterock and Makaha implausible
How it was at Longy this morning

Too tiny for the point

Hello Friends,
Really, the pictures tell the story this morning.

A steady SSE wind was blowing 12-16 kts when I got to the beach a little before 0800 this morning. Tide was still coming into the deep 1.94m high at 0837. The 0600 data from the MHL buoy showed 2.4 metres from the SSW at just 6 seconds apart. So, not only is it weak, it’s actually going away from the coast.

The Bureau tells us the swell should pick up during the day  as the direction goes more south to SSE and the period stretches out to around 10 seconds. That could be enough to get around into some of the semi-protected south corners, but the wind will be a factor all day long.

The Goat will be along later today with his thoughts on the surf week ahead. To me it looks like being sorta ho-hum and marginal, but he can call on a depth of experience with this coastline that has few peers, so maybe he’ll see it differently. Hope so!

Have a great day one and all!

Weather Situation
A vigorous southerly change has moved along the southern and central coast overnight, and is forecast to reach the far north coast by this evening. Following this change, a weak high pressure ridge will extend across New South Wales waters as a high pressure system slowly moves from the Bight to the Tasman Sea by the weekend. Winds will turn north to northeasterly during Saturday as this high moves over the Tasman Sea, ahead of another southerly change expected on the south coast on Sunday morning.
