Hello Friends,
At 0500 the Sydney MHL buoy was showing 2.5 m of 11-12sec SE swell. By the time it was light enough to get the pictures, it was looking solid at the point and on the verge of being too much for the beach. Sets looked to be in the head to overhead range. Wind was light and from the west under largely overcast skies. There’s a 70% chance of more light rain and the breeze should come up from the NE later this morning. Pollution is likely pretty much everywhere in Sydney.
I plan to update with another picture or two and some thoughts on the outlook later this morning…
Weather Situation
A trough remains slow-moving on central parts of the New South Wales coast, while a weak high is centred over the Tasman Sea. The trough is expected to decay today as the high becomes dominant, although a new trough will bring a southerly change to the southern half of the coast on Thursday. Winds and seas in the north are forecast to increase today and during Thursday associated with the forecast southwards track of Tropical Cyclone Linda from the Coral Sea. This system is expected to move towards the northern New South Wales coast while transitioning to an ex-Tropical Cyclone today, however is also expected to remain well offshore. It is then forecast to move away to the east later on Thursday, although some uncertainty remains regarding its exact movement. Another ridge is forecast to extend across New South Wales from a high over the southern Tasman by Friday.
