Grey and choppy Saturday morning

Hello Friends,

An undistinguished surf day in Sydney. It’s been lightly onshore since dawn and as the pictures show, that means choppy surface conditions for the 1.5 metre, 9-second SE wind swell. There were a few hopefuls chasing lumps at the point and along the beach, but the waits between the knee to maybe waist-high sets were long and when you did get one, it ran out of puff fairly quickly. So, if you can’t get to the beach, the good news is that you’re really not missing anything.

Looking ahead, the prospects are not great. Basically both the GFS and ECMWF models are showing only tiny, short period wind bump across the coming week. So, very much in line with what they were telling us yesterday. There is some slight hope for a bump in the NE energy around Friday, but it looks to be closely associated with NE winds too.

Ah well, at least we’re another day closer to the next good swell!

Weather Situation

A broad high pressure ridge is currently stretching across the Tasman Sea. Over the weekend, a coastal trough is slowly moving up the south east coast and stalling over central parts. Another coastal trough may develop from Wednesday onwards.
