2′ Powder Puff.

Posted on February 7th, 2012 in Collaroy.

Not much happening on the water this morning other than a fairly strong SE onshore.  From Narrabeen to Freshwater its pretty ordinary and messy.  Collaroy had a small wave around 2 foot.  Other than there I didn’t see anything to take my fancy.  A good working day.  Enjoy.  Surf Photos of You.

Collaroy lefts.

There were  a few fun ones down at the Roy mid morning to after lunch.  A good 3 foot, quick little sections.  NE swell with SE winds. Surf Photos of You.

There were a few head high waves coming through at Collaroy.  (This is a rarity).  There are a couple of swells in the mix this morning. ENE and a south swell from yesterday’s change.  Enjoy.  Surf Photos of You.

A selection of shots from Sunday messiness

Hello Friends,

Had a look at the south end of Manly and the Bower and then stopped by Whiterock and Collaroy to see if anything was surfable. I guess if you’re super keen there are junk burgers to be had, but for the less motivated it looks like a great day to catch up with friends.

PICS by Don: The Kick and Collaroy Wed 18 May

Posted on May 19th, 2011 in Collaroy, Don's surfin' pics, Top stories.

After shooting the big stuff at Dee Why and Long Reef, I went around the corner to see if anything was getting into Collaroy. Sure enough, there were waves. They weren’t very big, but every now and then something kind of interesting came through the Kick. So I shot folks having fun until I filled up the memory card. As usual, click the pic below to visit the gallery.

Typical Kick set wave on Wednesday afternoon 18 May 2011.

Southern ends only.

Posted on November 19th, 2010 in Collaroy, Long Reef.

The good thing about this strong southerly we have at the moment is that it will spike the swell up for a period, be it only short.  The wind is expected to ease Saturday as is the swell.  Its southern ends only.  There is a small wave down at Collaroy.  It may get bigger with the dropping of the tide and slight increase in swell.  Dee Why have some waves for the real keen surfer but it is fairly bumpy.  Long Reef is good for kite surfers only.  Surf Photos of You.

The Kick at Collaroy

The Kick at Collaroy which maybe the only place rideable this morning.  About 3 – 4 foot.

Size but…

Posted on February 5th, 2010 in Big Picture, Collaroy, Dee Why, North Narrabeen, South Narrabeen.

Hello Friends,

Went out for a look around once I had the light. The numbers look up okay – east swell, 3 metres at an average of 9 seconds – and the wind’s not going too hard. But… the surface is still lumpy, the swell isn’t lining up too well at all. Despite the energy levels, I didn’t really see too many waves being caught.

It says something about the conditions that the usually busy Northy had only a few diehards in for the early. There was one tow-in team looking around for something to pull into near Gardens. But it was slim pickings and after finding the wave in my picture, they headed off to pastures new.

Collaroy had little lines but no takers. It looks very flabby indeed and the water (as everywhere else) is pretty ordinary looking.

Longy, well, the picture says it all. Not the swell direction for it.

Dee Why beach looked basically unsurfable, but there were a few in at the point. I had to wait quite awhile before someone managed to jag one. It went for a few seconds and faded out. Not exactly all time.

From the shape of the various interpretations of the WAMs, it looks as though we should still have about the same size and energy levels through today. The prospect is for a gradual decline, probably beginning overnight – when we’re also due to get a little south change. The change isn’t supposed to persist, so maybe we could get lucky tomorrow morning in Sydney.

The fetch that created this swell looks as though it will dissipate this weekend, so next week is not currently looking too flash. Indeed, it could be back to summertime flatness by Wednesday.

Have yourself a top old day and go well!

A bit disappointing

Posted on December 1st, 2009 in At large, Collaroy.

Hello Friends,

Had one of those days when I just couldn’t reconcile my hopes with the reality. You know the deal I’m sure. Looked at Dee Why point, Collaroy, the Bower and Manly. None could persuade me to pull on the wetty.

It was a funny sort of day. There were waves around and in some places pretty big, but the quality just wasn’t enough to entice this correspondent.

I took pictures at Dee Why and Collaroy, but I didn’t get too many keepers. Waves were sectiony, often flabby and with the grey skies, rarely photogenic.

Still, I did pick out a couple to share. I took them with a Canon 7D that I have in for review at the moment. I like the speedy autofocus and the built in HD video is kinda cool as well. In fact, as an experiment I shot a wave at Dee Why which should be viewable below I hope.

By the time it got dark, the swell had moved slightly more to the SE. The period is hovering around the 9 second mark and the average size at sea is a touch over 3 metres.

I’m therefore quite confident that we’ll have something again tomorrow. The latest call from the Bureau for the Sydney region is for 20-30 kts of S-SW wind early, but it’s due to swing S-SE during the morning. Given that the tide’s going to be high early, we could face similar challenges vis a vis quality.

Here’s hoping Huey will smile upon us all!
