monday morning looked promising at our rivermouth point, based on the high-quality shorebreakers at the spit (not quite rideable), some 30 miles further from the open ocean, and about the only west-facing beach around – now, at noon, the spit has settled down to occasional, creamy shorebreakers – we have endured unusually heavy snowfalls and cold weather for several days, when this balmy, temperate island normally sees only a light fall or two each year, usually almost none at ocean level – roads currently hideous [excuses excuses] – marine winds from the east to 20 knots, at the mouth of the straits – please stay tuned ….
