Inner Harbour pics from yesterday

Nigel Dawes of PIXELPIMP PHOTOGRAPHY sent us a few snaps from yesterday’s well-attended session at Neilsen Park

Nigel writes:

With the recent bout of extreme weather conditions to hit the East Coast of Australia, hundreds of Sydney surfers congregated at Nielsen Park, near Rosebay, in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs to surf what’s referred to as “an inner-harbour novelty wave”. While Sydney’s beaches, outside the harbour, were closed due to treacherous conditions, hundreds of surfers turned out en mass to stake their claim in this rare event. The area is usually reserved for toddlers and mums. However, many surfers dared to ride waves through the cordoned off, shark-netted bathing area, at times, coming dangerously close to the barnacle encrusted pylons that hold the shark nets in place.

Swell was out of the east. It was 4 metres at sea and the period was around 11 seconds.
