Another micro morning

How to catch a wave today

Hello Friends,

Such a pretty morning, but as expected, wave energy is at a low ebb. The MHL directional spectra for Sydney is showing around a metre of 7-sec SSW wind swell and at Dee Why only the barest trickle of energy was showing. It was just enough to deliver some little knee high lines for a lone SUP’ster to catch.

However, there is something odd going on down the coast.

The directional spectra chart for Eden is showing a metre or so of south swell at 9 seconds, plus some shorter period NE wind chop. Nothing of interest there. But the Pt Kembla buoy is a very different story. At 0400 it was detecting 2 metres of 10 second south swell. Travelling time to Sydney is only a few hours at that period (10sec swell is moving at 15kts) so I’m really perplexed not to have seen any evidence of it when I took the picture about 0620. But I can tell you, I’ll be climbing up into the crows nest at regular intervals this morning – just in case!

The Bureau’s call is for about a metre of south to turn up around midday, so I’m not hoisting the swell pennant just yet!

Wind will be an issue as it moves from early morning offshore to 15-25kts of northerly later this morning.

It looks as though tomorrow will see a south pulse filling in around midday. Unfortunately, the Bureau says it’s arrival will coincide with the wind going around to the south at 25-30 kts. Not too many places can cope with that much southerly. The southerly will go hard overnight and into Friday morning, so I’m not getting too excited about surf prospects. Still, one is ever hopeful.

Speaking of ever hopeful, I’m ever hopeful that you’ll choose today to get on board with your pledge toward our crowdfunding drive. Over a hundred of your fellow RealSurfers have kicked in. So, how ’bout you? 🙂

Have yourself a great day and check back because I’ll flag any change to conditions.
