Still off the richter at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

At 0600 the MHL Sydney buoy was showing 4.3 metres of 12.9 second period SSE swell. Wind was offshore at 10-15 kts, but the swell is a lurching, heaving mess and Dee Why is essentially unsurfable again this morning.

Wind is expected to pick up again into the 25-30 kt range from the SW this morning, before turning southerly around midday. Tide’s low at 0905 and back to high at 1545.

Outlook is for the swell to gradually fade as the low moves away from us, but the Bureau still has a caution for large and powerful surf conditions through tomorrow. Speaking of which, the wind call for Friday is southerly 25-30 kts, so Dee Why probably won’t be coming to the party. And Saturday the wind’s set to be SE, so not much joy there either.

Pretty obviously the only options will be in those very protected south corners.

Have yourself a great Thursday one and all!

Weather Situation

A deep low pressure system over the western Tasman Sea is resulting in large seas and strong to gale-force south to southwesterly winds. Conditions are expected to gradually ease this week as the low moves slowly to the east. A high pressure system strengthening south of the Bight will become the dominant feature by the weekend in the wake of this low.
