Happy New Year 2015

Hello Friends,

Not much going on surfwise for the first day of 2015. Wind was light northerly and tide hit high at 0610. Swell was very small and short period. You’re looking at knee with the occasional waist high bomb, but quality is strictly ordinary. Wind should pick up into the 15-20 kt range from the NE as the day goes along, so no real prospect of significant improvement. But there might be a few bigger ones in the mix for the late.

Outlook for the weekend isn’t too red hot. More so-so small and junky short period wind chop is on the cards. Typical summer conditions in a word.

Have a great New Year’s Day and here’s hoping 2015 will be a great year for surf!

Weather Situation

A strengthening high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast, while a second high lies just to the west of Tasmania. A trough between these systems will move along the southern half of the coast this afternoon and evening before decaying on Friday as the Tasman Sea high becomes dominant. This high will draw generally northerly winds down from the tropics during Friday and Saturday, before the next trough and southerly change affect southern areas on Sunday.
