Hello Friends,
After the usual vodafone cone of internet silence at Crescent, I have signal again. Hope you’ve been getting waves ’cause we scored yesterday morning at the aforementioned point, and then again at Lennox Reefs today.
Although we’re holed up across the street from the beach in Lennox, in timeless surfer fashion, we felt it necessary to undertake an extended surf spot check-out before paddling out.
First stop was Lennox Head where a small crew were doing what they could with the rare sets. Although there’s okay size at exposed spots (see below), the swell was pretty much sailing past the point. What there was was breaking right at the tip and nothing much was coming down the inside. A local we talked to said the sand hasn’t been good for awhile and the point hasn’t been its usual self.

Since we were near it, we dropped in to check the action at Boulder. The swell was coming in more solidly there, but again the angle seemed to not be right or something. There were a couple people out at the top, but the set waves though 1.5x overhead, seemed kind of flat faced and shifty. There were a few bods down the line, but it was hard to tell if they were getting much. From behind it looked like more sections than makeable ones.
.
Writing that option off, we decided to see if anything was getting into Broken Head. I had my doubts given the swell angle, but in fact, there were waves up the beach (the lovely right in the corner was asleep). All the wave hungry surfers in Byron were there as well, so being old guys an all, we blew off the chance to get amongst it with an army of fit 20 year-olds.
When we got back to Lennox, the reefs were still pretty smooth thanks to the steady offshore. Wave faces on the irregular sets were into the head plus range, but getting into the right position was a bit like whack a mole. You had to be lucky. We got a few, so no complaints and thoughts now turn to other weighty matters such as where to get dinner later…
