A mighty blow for Sydney

Hello Friends,

Yikes! At 0300 the MHL buoy off Sydney was showing 3.8 to 7 metre swell and sea off Sydney. Swell was coming from the south and the period was clocking 10 seconds. Wind was southerly at around 20 kts. Meanwhile, down at Bateman’s Bay it was 5-9 metres at 12 seconds from the SSE. Tide is heading into a high at 1030. Wind should be 20-30 kts SE later and rainfall could be in the 8-20mm range. Not a terribly nice day from the sound of it.
Swell should peak around lunchtime and then hold through to midday tomorrow before starting to back off. Unfortunately it also looks as though the wind will keep smashing things up from the south through to Saturday at least.
Sunday currently looks a possibility for a change of wind direction and some remnant ESE swell energy in the chest to head range at magnets. But between now and then, it looks wild and woolly from here…
Speaking of here, surfwise things remain stuck firmly at the flat setting for Santa Barbara. And it’s only a little bit better between Ventura and the Mexican border. Right at the coast it’s also quite cool and overcast where I am, although south of here it looks as though the sun’s breaking through. There is a slight hope for some energy off of hurricane Blas in the next day or so, but it’s currently looking like not really dropping into the swell window for us, so hopes are tempered shall we say.
