"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Smooth early, southerly later

Hello Friends,

Wind was coming from the west at 8-10 kts around 0730, so the surface conditions were really pretty nice looking. Made the Manly run this morning and it looked soft but fun for the right equipment along the middle stretch. Curly was bigger and choppier and Dee Why was in between in both size and choppiness.

Swell at sea was 2 metres at 10 seconds and dead south. After the gloom and rain of yesterday, it was nice to see clearing skies this morning. Tide is coming into the 1.6m high at 1030 and we should see a temps topping out at a mild 23C.

Unfortunately, yesterday’s rain has left us with ‘pollution likely’ warnings at most beaches from Bilgola south. A sewage overflow at Queenscliff on Saturday won’t have done the Manly stretch any good. Personally, I just stay out of the water. I’ve heard too many stories of people getting severely ill from surfing in polluted conditions. (Although mostly not dangerous to humans, it’s been estimated that a litre of surface seawater typically contains at least 10 billion microbes and 100 billion viruses!)
Apart from the possibility of a morning session tomorrow, the rest of the week is currently shaping to be dominated by steady SE wind and mainly short period local wind swell. Oh, and regular rainy intervals just to keep the microbe loads topped up.
Really, really hope the models are being too bleak.
Have a top old Monday everyone
