Grey skies, grey seas and near flat at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

Too tiny to see any waves at Dee Why from RealSurf HQ this morning, although there are knee high bumps up the beach thanks to a weak 1 metre, 9-sec SE wind swell. Wind was out of the WNW 5-7 kts. Tide hits the 1.6 m high at 0900 and will be back to low at 1500. Surf prospects don’t look great for the next few days. This morning’s swell modelling is pretty much unchanged from yesterday, which is to say it looks like being really small through Thursday when the southerly kicks in. Thursday-Saturday is going to be smashed by the south wind if the models have it right. But there might be a brief window of opportunity on Sunday morning as southerly eases a bit and the 1.5-2 m SE swell stays in play. Beyond that, the projections for Monday and Tuesday are looking rather interesting as the wind dials back a little more, the swell gets a touch more east and periods stretch out to 10-11 seconds.

As always, the predictions are one thing and reality is another. So here’s hoping!

Weather Situation

A ridge of high pressure is weakening over the east of the state today. Winds are shifting north to northeasterly this afternoon as the high weakens and a trough approaches from the west. The trough is expected to cross the coast early Wednesday, bringing a west to southwesterly change to central and northern waters. A low pressure centre may deepen off the southern coast later Wednesday as strong high develops well to the south, with the potential to bring increased winds and swell during the latter part of the week.
