Sunny with swell and lots of shutdowns

Hello Friends,

Lots of folks in the water at Dee Why on the first mildly chilly morning in a long time. Skies were clear, wind was 9-15 kts from the west, swell at sea was south at 1.5 metres and 11 seconds apart. As with yesterday, that is translating into chest plus sets on the rare bombs at the best exposures. Otherwise, there’s not much more than knee-high bumps. As the Goat put it in his weekly forecast yesterday, we’re having a run of all-day low to lowish tides which, combined with the long-period swell, is delivering far more straight-handers than makeable ones. Chasing them yesterday was an exercise in frustration, and from the look of this morning, we’re in for more of the same today along the exposed open stretches.

We’re headed into a week of showery weather, so take full advantage of today’s sunny conditions if you can.

And have yourself a top old Friday!

Nice sized set but a second later it was completely shutting down.
Swell totally missing the point unfortunately

Weather Situation

Southwesterly winds persisting along the coast for the remainder of the week as a high pressure system slowly moves across the Bass Strait over the next few days. Winds will strengthen and tend southerly on Saturday as a weak trough extends along the coast. As the high reaches the Tasman Sea on Sunday, winds along the coast will tend east to northeasterly until the next change mid-next week.
