Hello Friends,
Barely a breath of wind at 0700 under overcast skies this morning at 0700. A tiny set rolled through the point when I grabbed the pictures this morning. It looked too small to be rideable and up the beach there was only the barest suggestion of a line. I think we can call it flat. MHL’s Sydney buoy hasn’t reported in since late yesterday afternoon but the other buoys up and down the NSW coast are all telling the same, sad story of sub-metre swell heights. Average periods reported by the stations south of us are below 8 seconds, while up north, they’re seeing about 13 sec from the east.
There isn’t much hope of an improvement to conditions today and tomorrow there’s a gale warning for winds in the 15-25 kt range starting from the NE and then swinging SW. At the same time, swell is set to bump up into the 1.5 metre range from the NE. Unfortunately, the models suggest that the period will be in the 7-8 second range, so I don’t expect much of an improvement in the waves.
Sunday looks equally ordinary but Monday’s currently shaping to be possibly fun at spots that like dead south swell.
Have a great Friday everyone!
Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge towards southern Queensland, while a trough is stalled and decaying on the New South Wales coast. The Tasman high will become dominant today, directing northerly winds over most coastal waters. A strong cold front is expected to bring a vigorous west to southwesterly change to southern and central parts of the coast during Saturday, reaching the northern coast early Sunday.
