Swell has arrived…

0720: The swell is starting to kick in at Dee Why
0720: The swell is starting to kick in at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

Welcome to the first day of operations at the new look RealSurf! And Sydneysiders, say welcome to your new swell.

Just before midnight on Monday  (shortly after Ross and I finished porting the new site over so that you could see it this morning) the MHL buoy was still showing only a metre at less than 6 sec from the south. But no sooner had my head hit the pillow, than Huey threw the switch and the MHL buoy went up to its current 3 metres (with 5 metre peaks out at sea) at 10 seconds.  And that’s more than enough to start lighting up spots that like their energy from the south.

I watched Dee Why for sometime before I could get my pictures and I can tell you that those sets are still separated by healthy lulls. However, that is typical for a new swell and I am confident that by mid-morning we’ll be seeing the consistency improve.

The models are still calling for the swell to peak sometime around tomorrow morning when it could be close to 50% bigger than now – if they have it right.

The Bureau is calling for S-SW 15-20 kts today with the swell ramping to 4 metres. They say it’ll be 4 metres tomorrow but will fade. The models agree, but the good news is they project very surfable size through to Saturday morning.

I’m planning to get out and about with my cameras, so expect at least a couple more pictures from yours truly today.

In the meantime, go well and get a few if you can!
