Lo-o-o-ong waits

Finally, a set arrives

A little something

Hello Friends,

Plenty of folk in the water along the Collaroy-Narrabeen stretch this morning. But not exactly plenty of waves. I had to wait quite some time before seeing anyone catch a wave along a couple kms of beach. Swell is coming from the NE still. It has a juicy 13 second period, but since it’s only about 1.5 metres at sea, it wasn’t sizable at Coll-Narra. Figure maybe shoulder high on the biggest ones, but bear in mind too, that they are very few and very long between. The Bureau has the large swell warnings posted for today and tomorrow, but looking at the data, I’m not seeing exactly why. I guess these very long lulls with the potential for an occasional solid set makes rock fishing dangerous.

Tidal swings are gentler again. So there’s not a huge difference between the low at 1110 or so and the high at 1650.

This pattern of generally small with the very occasional set may continue for another day or two. Then it looks like we’re into a NE’ly pattern with small but not flat conditions.

Have yourself a great Saturday!

Weather Situation
A high pressure system moving across Bass Strait will strengthen over the Tasman Sea during Saturday. At the same time, a trough over inland New South Wales is expected to weaken as the high pushes a ridge towards the northern coast. This pattern will result in east to northeasterly winds developing along the coast through the weekend. A cold front is expected to bring a southerly change to the far south later on Christmas Eve, continuing through most remaining areas during Christmas Day.
