Wild and Woolly Southerly Day

Hello Friends,
Wind was going pretty hard as Friday sparked up. As of 0700 it was SSE 25-30 kts along most of the Sydney coast. The MHL buoy was showing 4 metres of 10-second SE swell (energy was coming from south right around to E by ENE) and the ocean not surprisingly is looking chaotic. Nobody was crazy enough to be giving Dee Why a go.
The wind is set to go hard all day and to not back off significantly until Sunday when it’s predicted to swing NE by the afternoon.
Beachwatch says water quality is okay most places, but it flags concerns for north Curly and the south end of Manly. Apparently Bronte, Tama, Clovelly and Coogee are also pretty ordinary. Ocean temp is sitting on 21 and next tide’s a high a little after noon.
Outlook is for the wind to be more out of the NE in the coming week, and for swell to be generally out of the easterly quarters. Nothing is particularly jumping out at me from the charts this morning. It looks like a pretty typical summery week really – generally onshore and marginal but not utterly flat.
Have a great Friday and keep on smilin’!

Weather Situation

A complex low pressure system off the northern NSW coast is expected to move slowly to the east over the next 24 hours as a high moves into the southern Tasman Sea. Strong to gale force southeasterly winds along central and northern parts of the coast will ease somewhat today. The low is expected to move slowly further to the east over the weekend as a weak ridge becomes established along the NSW coast.
