South swell on a chilly Sunday morning

Hello Friends,

As predicted, swell spiked up last night from the SSE and briefly hit 7 metres offshore at around 0300. As of 0600 it was 3.5 metres at close to 12 seconds. It must be very setty though because in 10 minutes of watching I saw only one set (see pic below) hit the point and it was maybe head and a bit. Lots of folks in the water though which makes me think I just didn’t wait out the lull…
Although the call is for southerly wind, as of 0800 it was still offshore. It’s supposed to be 15-20 kts south. Swell’s expected to decay steadily across the day. Tide was low at 0810 and is now coming back in to the high at 1430. Tomorrow the Bureau says we should have light and variable winds plus a south and east swell combo that ought to produce a few small waves. The combo should last into Tuesday as well. In fact, if the models have it right, we should have little surfable waves pretty much all week.
Your correspondent is off to the ABC 702 studios to join Simon Marnie and Rob Brander for a chat about last weekend’s excitement along the beaches.
Have yourself a top old Sunday one and all!
