Hello Friends,
2017 opens with surf conditions not wildly dissimilar to those of 2016’s final day, however, the dominant swell direction has moved around to the SE. It’s still only a metre at about 7 seconds apart, so the magnets aren’t likely to be offering much more than knee to waist high conditions. Tide was low at 0430 and is now heading to a 1.78 m high at 1100 and as your correspondent writes this, the wind is coming lightly from the east at North Head. It’s not expected to pick up much across the day. Unfortunately the waves aren’t expected to push up either.
Tomorrow we’re expected to go into a southerly mode. Unfortunately while the Bureau expects a mix of SE and NE wind swell, the southerly will likely smash most surf options. Right now it looks like staying S-SE through to Wednesday.
Happily some of the models are showing winds moderating to light by Thursday while the SE swell sticks around in the (hopefully) chest plus range at magnets.

Weather Situation
A broad and slow moving low pressure trough extends across the northern New South Wales coast. This trough will remain slow moving on Sunday, before a high pressure system in the Bight moves eastward from Monday and extends a ridge along the New South Wales coastline. The ridge will push an associated southerly change up the coast on Sunday night and Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday the high will move into the southern Tasman Sea, and direct generally east to southeasterly winds across New South Wales coastal waters.
