Small but not flat early

Hello Friends,

Pushing the limits of surfability this morning. The MHL buoy was picking up a metre of 10-sec east wind bump at 0500. That’s down a foot or so from yesterday – which was already pretty marginal. At daybreak the wind was faintly from the west and the tide was filling in on its way to the 1.4 m high at 0950.
Checking the beaches at daybreak revealed distinctly smaller, but not flat, conditions at spots that like the east swell direction. Expect knee to occasionally waist at better exposures.
The current surf conditions should hang in there through the day although the wind will gradually develop from the northern quarters.
Outlook is for things to bumble along at the current intensity, more or less, through the weekend (Mother’s Day is shaping to be pretty rainy). The models are looking okay if not spectacular this morning. Monday could be windy but swell could start to kick up into the fun size range where, with luck, it’ll hold for the rest of the week. Fun size to me is chest to shoulder plus at magnets.
Your correspondent will be into postcards from… mode next week as I make a re-scheduled trip up north.
In the meantime, have yourself a great Saturday everyonhe!

Weather Situation
A weakening high pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea, establishing northerly winds along most of the New South Wales coast. Later today, a trough will bring a fairly feeble southerly change to southern waters, continuing through the central and northern parts on Sunday. A low is likely to develop in the north within this trough, and then move rapidly away to the east on Monday as a new ridge of high pressure develops over the land. This pattern is forecast to result in increasing southerly winds along the coast at the start of the week.
