The Goat’s Surf Forecast

The Goat’s Surf Forecast

Surf forecast issued Thursday 25 August 2022: Seven day outlook for Sydney:

TG is back on deck.. for a bit anyway. He’s hiding under a blanket because he’s having trouble re-acclimatising after getting used to regular sunny pleasant days around the 29-31 degree mark in FNQ – Cape York /Torres Strait etc.

He’s passed me a piece of paper from under the blanket with a shakey handwritten forecast on it…

“It’s too bloody cold to think about going in the water.”

Ignore that if you’re young, fit, keen etc…

He’s also still getting over “the shock” that with all those thousands of ks of Qld coastline: – 1. there’s no surf to count on north of Noosa “because of some bizarre huge offshore reef” 2. nasty stingers can inhabit coastal waters (“not just at the moment… but”)  3. the water is a murky, uninviting, horrible colour at the picturesque looking coastal beaches 4. Crocodiles, sharks and other nasty life threatening creatures like stone fish infest the waters  – “not all the time” but “No guarantees” Ha!

The weather can be warm and pleasant right now – but “no guarantees”.  Anywhere that’s warm is good and he had a great time, and didn’t go there for the surf or to get eaten.

Anyhoo, swell today here was around the 2 metre mark from SSE 9-10 seconds

Surf outlook is

Friday: easing back a little from Thursday, into the 1-2 metre range South

Saturday: 1-2 metre range South East

Sunday: around 1, 1-2 metres East South East

Monday: ditto

Tuesday: ditoish East

Wednesday: around 1, 1+ metres South East

Thursday: similar

Stay warm. Stay safe. Smile a lot.
