Waves this morning at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

Looking a bit choppy this morning, but it’s sunny and the set wave faces are pushing into the head high plus range, plus it’s reasonably consistent. Wind was WNW 5-8 kts at 0830 and it should gradually drift around to the NE this afternoon and pick up into the 10-15 kt range. Swell at sea was 1.5 metres at 11 seconds from the ESE as of 0830. Tides for the day are a low at 0935 and a high of 1.6m at 1615. Weather should stay mostly sunny as we head to a high of 22C. Beachwatch reports clean water along the Northern Beaches and an ocean temp of 18C.

The rainy stuff is heading our way and by tomorrow, skies should be grey and showery with a straight east onshore breeze and an 8-second 1.3 metre SE wind bump. Thursday’s set to be rainy all day with even smaller and weaker waves and steady onshores from the ESE. Friday’s looking small on the surf front with grey skies and steady northerly wind. The weekend could be grey and showery too, and swell doesn’t look like improving much if at all…

So, bottom line, get out there, because this is probably as good as it gets for the next week!

Weather Situation

A strong high pressure system extends a ridge across the eastern parts of the state, bringing light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds along the coast. Winds will be freshening along the far south coast this evening as a low pressure trough brushes along the southern coast and continues to head north. Winds along the southern and central parts of the coast will be freshening further while tending east to northeasterly over the next couple of days as the trough remains in the region while another trough slowly moves over the western parts of the state.
