Surf forecast issued Friday 1 October 2010: Seven day outlook for Sydney:
Looks like so-so weather for the long weekend, and fresh onshore winds, but there should be waves (of dubious quality) for the keen ones…
For the not so keen, don’t despair… there are other things for you to do… see below.
Saturday: about 1 metre East North East, but coming up with the fresh E/NE breeze.
Sunday: in the 1-2 metre range East North East.
Monday: ditto.
Tuesday: ditto.
Wednesday: ditto.
Thursday: coming up early in the day… 2+ metres South East… but then going down.
Friday: in the 1-2 metre range South East, going down.
Water temp is around 17-18… which means the Noreaster blowing across the cool water, will make the air feel colder than a Summer Noreaster does…
But… if it’s too cool and if the surf is not to your liking – don’t despair we have something else for you to do J….
Go check out the surf historical exhibition at Avalon Beach Surf Club, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary this weekend.
Avalon is the Home of the IRB, and the home of some wonderful people – including me.
Take in the vibes…
– Look out the window to South Avalon off the rock pool where the manoeuvrability of malibu surfboards was first shown to Aussies by the visiting American surf team, which included Greg Noll, here for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Midget Farrelly became so stoked watching them, he went on to become our first World Champion;
– Stand in the Hall where the first meeting to establish the Australian Surfriders Association was held in the early sixties. The floor has been repaired since the days of the Avalon Stomp!
– Stride the same balcony where The Hass of Baywatch stood with The Goat!
Feel it all…
Free entry – though a helpful donation will never be refused.
Open 10am-4pm this Saturday and Sunday.
Get inspired enough to join the club! New members always welcome.
