"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Chilly but clean and fun looking early

Hello Friends,

After seeing Manly last night, I was hopeful for this morning and sure enough, it may be a chilly 16 outside but the SE swell’s bumped up into the 3 metre range at sea and the wind is SW at 10-15 kts. Average period is likely to be around the 9-second mark (the MHL buoy’s still off the air), so set wave faces at Dee Why point are into the head high, maybe even plus range. Next tide is a low at 1130.
The Bureau says the swell will pick up during the day but go more southerly. That being the case, the net effect could be not much change for Dee Why from the present situation.
Tomorrow’s outlook is for more stiff SW wind and for the south swell to get into the 3-4 metre range which has resulted in a caution for large and powerful surf conditions.
So, it’s on – as long as you’re prepared to ignore Beachwatch’s advice yesterday that all Sydney beaches were likely to be polluted with run-off.
Be interesting to see what the Goat thinks on this one. I wonder if he’ll be as cheerful about the weekend prospects at south swell spots as some of the forecast models…
Have a great day one and all!

Weather Situation

A broad low pressure trough lies across the eastern Tasman Sea while a high pressure system lies south of Tasmania. A low is expected to develop within the trough and deepen today. The low will remain in the southern Tasman Sea and will bring generally southwest to southerly winds to the NSW coastline, reaching strong to gale force along the south and central coasts on Thursday in particular. Towards the weekend the low will begin to weaken and move across the Tasman Sea towards New Zealand.
