Hello Friends,
Plenty of folk in the water along the beach north from the SLSC. They were doing a lot of waiting too. The rare sets were, as the picture shows, about waist high. In between, you’re pretty much sitting in a millpond. Skies were overcast and the wind was coming lightly from the west at about 10 kts. Swell at sea was 0.9 m at 12 seconds from the east. Sea temp is around 19C. Weather should be partly cloudy with a high of 19C. Tide was low at 0500 and will be back to a moderate 1.3 m high at 1100.
The swell might come up a touch across the day, but the models show the period decreasing too, so I’m not expecting a significant improvement. The small to nearly flat, short period conditions currently look like lasting through to Friday, when we might start to see a fresh south pulse. Right now, Saturday looks potentially solidly overhead at south magnets, but with rain and a blasting southerly.

A weak high pressure ridge extends across the east, with a trough associated with a low pressure system over the Tasman Sea brushing the southern half of the coast. Winds will turn northerly on Wednesday ahead of the front that will bring westerly wind change on Thursday.
