Still micro at Dee Why this morning

Hello Friends,

The forecast says we should have 2-2.5 metres of south swell today and out at sea the swell height is 1.6 m at 11 seconds from 178° (ie, dead south) – but, as the picture shows, there’s nothing happening at Dee Why. In fact a group of bathers were jumping in the water from the rock-off spot at the point. A quick check of the cams reveals that better exposures are at least seeing some softish knee to waist high wave faces.

First tide of the daylight hours was a 1.6m high at 0750. Weather should be partly cloudy with a high of 22C and the ocean is still on 20C.

It’s probably worth keeping an eye on things, as the swell is set to come up a bit more toward midday. It looks like the wind’s beginning to bump up the surface and the forecast tells us to expect 10-15 kt from the easterly quarters.

Outlook is for the energy levels to fade back again and be back to short period but more easterly wind swell as we head into the weekend. Beyond that, the modelling isn’t looking too exciting. The most optimistic of the long range predictions is showing the possibility of a bump up in energy levels toward the end of next week.

Have a great Wednesday everybody!
