Energy levels on the rise

Hello Friends,

Another warm and sunny day coming up. Wind shifted to the ESE as of 0930. And it should gradually pick up across the morning as it gets into the 10-15 kt range. Out at sea the dominant swell is coming from the ENE. As of 0930, it was about 1.6 m at 9-10 seconds. The MHL buoys up north at Byron and Coffs were seeing 3-4 metres of 13 second swell from TC Seth. The Bureau warns that we should see signs of that energy by this afternoon.

Unfortunately it looks as though the onshores will be into the swell pretty much the whole time. So, there’ll be waves but quality is going to be so-so at best.

Take the mask when you’re out and about. In the last week of 2021, the Northern Beaches LGA recorded 2049 cases, roughly half of which occurred on the 29 & 30th. The data have not been updated since, so I guess we’re free to speculate about why that might be. It feels like there’s no hand on the tiller and we’re getting closer to the reef… stay safe friends!

Weather Situation

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth is currently located over the southern Coral Sea. This system is forecast to adopt a west to northwesterly track, approaching the Queensland coast during the first half of the week. As a result, large and powerful waves, hazardous surf conditions and strong to gale force winds are expected over northern waters. Elsewhere a ridge extends across the coastal waters.
