Chop, chop and more chop v.2

Hello Friends,

Another morning of threatening skies and choppy, messy but not tiny conditions. Cloudy and a few showers says the Bureau, and the wind is already 15-20 kts from the ENE. Blergh. It’s supposed to stay that way for Tuesday. The wind swell is straight east at a couple metres on average with a period just under 8 seconds. There were a few bods warming up for the day’s comp at Northy but down the beach from there it’s just shutting down junk. Dee Why was looking rippy, weird and pretty much unsurfable for the early. There were a couple chaps trying to extract something from the situation along the beach and another bloke at the point, but in 10 minutes of waiting around watching, I didn’t see any of them catch a wave. You’d want to be extra keen.

Tide was low at 0625 and will hit the high at 1325.

I’m liking the way the forecast models are shaping up – particularly for the weekend. If the weather systems line up the way the supercomputers reckon they will, we should see solid ENE swell (as in 2 metres at 12 seconds) raking the Sydney region from late Friday night into Monday. The latest call is for the wind to be light and from the southerly quarters.

Between now and then the call is for more of what we have at the moment – ie junky, messy, onshore waist to chest high short period wind swell and lots of onshores and grey skies.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system south of Tasmania is expected to remain in the area during the next few days, maintaining a ridge across the southern Tasman Sea. This pattern is directing an east to northeasterly airstream over New South Wales coastal waters. A weak trough embedded within this stream off the northern New South Wales coast is expected to weaken mid-week as a ridge strengthens along the coast.

Forecast for Tuesday until midnight
Winds: East to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres. Swell: Easterly 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Wednesday
Winds: Northeasterly 15 to 20 knots increasing to 20 to 25 knots around midday. Seas: 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Easterly about 1.5 metres.

Forecast for Thursday
Winds: Northeasterly 20 to 25 knots tending east to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the morning. Seas: 1 to 2 metres. Swell: Easterly 1.5 metres.

Got a sec? We’d appreciate your responses…
