Bottom dropped out of the swell

Hello Friends,

Looking like it might be a good day to get on with other things. Swell has decreased to about a metre on average from the SSE and the period has dropped from 10 seconds to a touch over 8.There was only the tiniest of lines dribbling into Dee Why at 0730 and no one was in the water. I suppose you might find a little knee high line up at the Long Reef end of the beach, but the real energy is still waiting in the wings. According to the Bureau the swell will double around dark, but the SW wind will be pushing up to 20-30 kts by then as well. Tide was low at 0645 and will hit high at 1320.

The real size is set to arrive overnight. And the wind will be pushing up into the stupid range too. This morning’s call from the Bureau is for south swell of up to 5 metres on Friday and 4-5 metres on Saturday. 30-45 kts of south to SW wind will severely limit the already minimal options for something surfable. Given that the wind is expected to be blowing hard through the weekend (and getting more southerly), I’m not to hopeful about much in the way of approachable conditions for the average surfer until early next week…

Have yourself a great Thursday!

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over New South Wales is weakening as a cold front approaches from the west. This front will move across the coast during Thursday, with an intense low pressure system forming over the central Tasman Sea by Friday. This system is expected to bring strong to gale force winds and heavy seas, easing later on the weekend as the low moves towards New Zealand.
