A sunny Saturday with some waves

Hello Friends,

A mild and sunny day in prospect for Saturday. Wind was light offshore at daybreak and swell perked slightly from yesterday according to the MHL buoy. As of 0400 it was coming from the SSE with an average height at sea of 1.7 metres and a typical period of nearly 10 seconds. Water temp offshore was sitting on 22.6C.

The Bureau says we should expect the wind to go around to the s to sw and get into the 10-16 kt range before weakening to less that 10 kts from the south later. At the same time, they’re also telling us that the south swell should come up a touch. So, sunny skies, light winds and a bit of south swell for voting day.

Swell is expected to peak and then start slowly backing off this afternoon and tomorrow could see a fairly marginal set of numbers, with the best option shaping to be the early.

The outlook for the remainder of the week is not great. In fact, if the models are right, we’re looking at microness through to next weekend and beyond. Some interpretations show the possibility of a bit of short period south wind swell late in the week, but there isn’t much commonality on the point among the alternative predictions.

Have yourself a great Saturday and don’t forget to do your duty at the polls.

Weather Situation

A complex low pressure system is over the southern Tasman Sea and a high is centred to the west of Victoria. The low complex will move further across the Tasman Sea today with strong southwest winds in the far south easing early. The high should move over the state over the weekend. Generally southeast winds today should turn northeasterly on Sunday as the high establishes itself over the Tasman Sea, where it will remain for much of the new week. The next cold front is not expected before Thursday.
