Surf forecast issued Thursday 2 July 2015: Seven day outlook for Sydney:
A bit of size coming up from the South with wave heights and periods increasing, then down for a coupla days, then back up again.. courtesy of the SW winds dragging cold air from way down in the Southern Ocean, dumping a little snow on the mountains… But with the solid swell and air temps I think it will be for the hardy, fit, and keen…Btw if you felt cold this morning at 7:30 it may have been 7 but the apparent temp according to the BoM from the windchill was Zero! However out of the wind and in the sun I was very comfy in a T shirt later …
There’s also more size hitting WA and Indonesian spots again this week – prob a bit too big for many who’ve gone there to surf in warmer climes with winter starting to make its presence felt here..
For the week ahead in Sydney, while the models may suggest bigger than TGs numbers below, with the forecast direction ( SSW and dead South at times) it looks like most of that will be going out to sea or running parallel to the coast..
Friday: coming up through 1-2 metres, 2 + at dead South friendly spots…
Saturday: around 2, 2+metres dead South (ditto comment)
Sunday: dropping back fairly quickly to 1-2 metres and lower South
Monday and Tuesday: around 1 metre or so dead South
Wednesday: coming up again sizeable but with a shorther period, so say 1-2 or even 2 + metres at dead South spots
Thursday: dittoish
Friday: up some more..
Water temp is around 19
Thoughts are with the bodyboarder attacked by a shark at Ballina today, and his family and friends…
…meanwhile in Iceland… Wazza says
“There are waves here and a very limited number of surfers. One thing which I like every village, town has a heated thermal swimming pool and every house and main roads have thermal heating ! A fascinating country.” Water temp is 9 which seems about average for this time of year… Max expected air temp today is 14 – both air and water way to cool for Summer I think…Must tell Waz, when you head to the northern hemisphere for the Summer it gets cooler the further north you go… Wazza’s Iceland surf pic today… Note the crowd!
