Collaroy-Narrabeen not small

Hello Friends,

Checked out the Collaroy-Narrabeen stretch from Mactier Street a little before 0800. There appeared to be a few bods in the water up at Northy and then, apart from a couple of keen bodyboarders somewhere south of Emerald Street, there wasn’t anyone else surfing until you got down to Collaroy. It seemed to be in the waist to chest plus range there, but as you went north along the beach, the swell was getting in pretty impressively. Solid overhead sets and slabbing lips was the situation from around Marquesas up to Northy.

Wind was WSW 5-10 kts when I grabbed the pics, but the Bureau tells us it’ll be 15-20 kts southerly soon. They’re predicting SE swell of 2-2.5 m. At 0500 the MHL buoy was showing 2.6 metres of 11.5 sec SE swell (133°). Tide was low at 0615 and is coming into a 1.3 m high at 1215. Although the skies were largely clear when I checked the beach, the Bureau says there’s an 80% chance of a shower or three.

Swell should gradually fade across the week, but that won’t be the big issue. Unfortunately once the southerly arrives today we’re into an extended period of briskly onshore conditions through to next weekend. And beyond that the long range (ie highly speculative) modelling shows only tiny to near flat for next week.

Keep on smilin’!
