Sunny start but still scrappy and disorganised at Dee Why

Hello Friends,

A fine start to Wednesday, but the wave situation is still marginal at best. As of 0930 there was the faintest of SSW breezes trying to smooth out the choppy ESE swell. It was 9 seconds apart and 1.7 metres at sea, so there’s definitely some energy in the system. But, as you can see, conditions were junky and lumpy at Dee Why.

The forecast is calling for a 95% chance of 4-13mm of rainfall today, plus the wind is set to swing to the S-SE and pick up into the 10-15 kt range. So this morning is as “good” as it gets. Tomorrow should see more easterly wind (although the early morning ought to see light breezes). Swell’s due to come back up from the southern quarters and that will mix with the little east stuff on a day that has a 90% chance of rain. Unfortunately both the ECM and the GFS swell models are predicting swell periods in the 7-8 second range into next week. Although morning winds should generally be light, the current weather call is for a rainy Friday and Saturday, followed by more showery weather through to at least Tuesday. Water’s still on 22C and away from the lagoon entrances Beachwatch is showing conditions as mostly clean. So at least you’re free to do an exercise paddle.

Go well!

Here comes the rain again
