Hello Friends,
Given the forecast, I thought today would be a write-off surfwise, but Huey’s keeping me humble. Instead, there was a lull in the rain (replete with big patches of blue sky) and the wind was offshore. As of 0800 we had 2.3 metres of 14-15 second SE swell lighting up the beaches. Sets at Dee Why point didn’t seem particularly consistent, but wave faces were into the head plus range. It looked to be about the same size up the beach too.
From the look of the sky, we’ll have rain before long and the Bureau says the wind will come around to the SE. So well done those of you who went down to the beach this morning despite the forecast.
They may have missed this morning, but the Bureau says we should expect S-SE wind into the weekend with gradually building swell from the east on Friday from an East Coast Low they expect to see form off the Queensland coast. Prospects are looking rather interesting for Monday at this stage. If it plays out the way some models are predicting, we could have thumping east swell, offshore wind and sunny skies…
Go well, and mask up when you’re inside public spaces with others.
Weather Situation
South to southeasterly winds will persist for the coming days as a high pressure system near Tasmania slowly moves east. On Thursday and Friday, a trough over the Coral Sea is expected to deepen and form an East Coast Low offshore from the southeastern Queensland coast. This low is likely to generate large easterly swells and increasing east to southeasterly winds, mainly to the northern waters, on Friday and Saturday before it moves away to the east.
