Scrappy conditions for Australia Dad morning

dy beach surfer

Hello Friends, This morning sees scrappy, messy but not flat conditions at Dee Why. Fair number of people in the dodgy looking water and Dee Why itself is in full Australia Day mode under partly sunny skies. However, the forecast is showing a 60% chance of rain. Swell is still out of the east at […]

North Steyne at 0900 (vid)

Dark grey skies and chop-inducing light easterly onshore with a high tide at North Steyne this morning when I stopped to shoot a video minute. The two metre 12-sec east swell was quite consistent and though most waves were unmakeable shutdowns, the fun ones were reasonably plentiful for the sizable crowd.

Another murky morning, but there are waves

surfers at dy point

Hello Friends, Light SW breezes and smooth but still somewhat lumpy conditions just before 0700. Swell continues to push along. It looks a touch smaller than yesterday, but the direction’s about the same (ESE), the period’s about the same (11 sec) and the bombs will probably be about the same. Tide’s coming into the high […]

Dee Why beach around 1000 (vid)

dy surfing video

Checked out Dee Why around 1000 this morning. As the report’s already informed you, it was very crowded. The point was really inconsistent, but the beach was reasonably active. Tide was kinda making ’em fat, but as you’ll see at the end of the clip, they weren’t all hopeless…

Swell for Sunday and everyone’s in

DY surfing

Hello Friends, Swell’s out of the east again this morning and the sets are still solidly head high. Average periods are around 11 seconds but there’s 14-sec energy in the mix as well. From the look of the buoy data, the swell peaked overnight. Tide’s high this morning at 0920. Wind was light SW to […]

Hello Friends, Thumping swell as predicted at the east magnets this morning. Swell’s out of the east at about 1.5 metres but with a juicy 12+ sec period. Set wave faces at the standouts are into the head plus range and almost certainly will be bigger on the bombs. By 0615 anywhere with a wave […]

Looks like the swell’s starting to fill in at Northy (vid)

north narrabeen surfer

It was tiny this morning, but when I checked Northy around 1100, the swell was clearly evident. Carpark Rights were doing their crunchy thing and although busy, the waves were coming frequently enough that you didn’t have long to wait for your turn. Check out how many takeoff there are in this 90-sec clip…

Waiting for the swell to arrive

dee why point

Hello Friends, As of 0645 there was no obvious sign of the long predicted swell. Wind was light under mostly high overcast skies. Tide was heading to the high at 0750. Out at sea, the MHL buoy was showing 1.3 metres of 12-second SSE swell at 0400. The directional spectrum chart was also showing some […]

Mid-Curly grovellers (vid)

surfer Curl Curl beach

Found myself out and about this morning, so swung by Curly to see if it was picking up anything. It was, sorta, but just in the middle where the little windswell was focussing on a high tide friendly bank.
