"Stay happy and you'll be perfectly fine" - Jack Norris

Welcome to Lake Dee Why

Hello Friends, Half a metre. From the SSW. 5 seconds apart. Yep, it’s flat. And there’s no real prospect of an improvement until tomorrow, when we might see a very slight uptick into the just barely catchable range at NE spots. Judging by the swell models this morning, we’re looking unlikely to see anything much […]

Offshore and sunny early but still tiny

dy beach

Hello Friends, The wind was chilly early but we’re headed to a high of 27 later. At 0700 the wind was offshore and the most recent MHL data was showing a metre of 8-second south swell. So, there might be something up the beach at Long Reef, but as far as the Dee Why to […]

Fat, full and tiny on Monday morning

dy point

Hello Friends, Steady NNW wind as the day got started under high overcast. Tide was coming into the high at 0945 and there were a few rain drops in the breeze when I climbed aloft for the first picture of the day. The point and kiddies were showing a too-small to surf NE windswell. The […]

Sunny Sunday but waves in short supply

no mans micro

Hello Friends, In line with expectations, the surf has faded out to just about nothing this morning. Dee Why is in the ankle to knee high range along the beach under beautiful sunny skies. As of 0730 there was a light north breeze and we were heading to a high tide at 0900. The day’s […]

Swell for magnets on Saturday morning

dy beach surfing

Hello Friends, Light west to NW breezes to greet a sunny, clear-skied Saturday morning in Sydney. Swell’s down from yesterday but as of 0400 was still 1.5 metres at 10 seconds from the SSE. Tide was coming into the high at 0815 when I did my circuit ahead of the usual 702 ABC report and […]

Friday morning firing up

no mans dee why

Hello Friends, Offshore wind cleaning up a raw looking south swell under skies dominated by high clouds. Sets at Dee Why point were into the shoulder high plus range at 0700. An average period of 10 seconds means the energy levels are pretty reasonable too. As you might expect, the crew was on the point […]

TG’s Surf Forecast

Surf forecast issued Thursday 13 October 2016: Seven day outlook for Sydney: Well girls… and I use the term collectively… you know those pop up shops ??? here today, gone tomorrow…(Yes) …Well we had a “pop up surf” today…  TG expects it to start packing up its wares tomorrow and moving on. A fairly fast moving weather […]

SW wind and south swell to start

Hello Friends, Wind’s SW 10-20 kts at North Head as I write this a little before 0800. Three hours ago the MHL buoy was showing 1.75 metres of 7-second SE wind swell. This was translating into generally scrappy surface conditions at the point and up the beach. Wave faces on sets were close to the […]

Curly update

curl curl beach surfinjg

Stopped by Curly this morning around 0845. Lotsa people in the water with beautiful looking conditions. However, the longer I watched, the more I realised that the actual rideable ones were pretty few and far between, even though the sets were coming through regularly. So, surfable definitely, but you’ll want to be patient!
